On October 20th, 2016, the second field day of Sino-German Crop Production and Agrotechnology Demonstration Park (DCALDP) was successfully held in the Yellow Sea farm, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. Besides Chinese technicians and farm managers, among the 150 guests were representatives of the Chinese and German Ministries of Agriculture, of GFA, AFC, DLG and the DCZ. Furthermore, representatives of business and project partners were present.

The DCADLP project, aiming at development of sustainable agriculture in China by means of modern agricultural machinery and adapted cultivation methods, launched officially in November 2015. The crops (barley, wheat, potatoes and peas) were planted with German technology and expertise on a 150-hectare demonstration area provided by the Huanghai Farm in northern Jiangsu Province. Since that time, the project has gained important agronomic experiences – especially with tillage of the heavy soil, with rapid plant growth and with two harvests per year. Also, the first field trials with the cultivation of dry crops (e.g. peas, maize and soy beans) have been carried out. Agronomists, farm managers and technical personnel from the Chinese agricultural sector receive trainings and attend demonstrations to acquire practical knowledge and skills in the field of sustainable practices of crop cultivation and soil improvement measures making use of modern agricultural machinery.

On the 2nd field day, the focus was on the explanation and demonstration of harvesting and field work that has been carried out with modern farming machines provided by European business partners. During the event the maize harvest, the straw management, stubble- and basal tillage and the sowing in 2 variants were presented to the guests, distributed amongst 5 different stations. It was possible to inspect a potato field and the first germination of wheat and rape, which was just sown a week earlier.

In addition to the demonstrations of machines, the project team of DCALDP emphasized on future field- and agronomic objectives of the project. One of which is the consequent expansion of the dry-crop-rotation, to protect the soil against the necessary strong irrigation by flooding during the cultivation of paddy-rice and thereby to optimize the soil structure.
